First Syslog Open Online Meeting a Success

Yesterday, we held the first open meeting for the (r)syslog community. It was announced on very short notice, but we still had more than 10 participants. Even more important, we had some great discussions. So I call the concept a “success” and plan for more to come.

For everyone who could not attend, here is the meeting recording:

We had a lot of technical and feature questions, many of them discussing why certain feature requests would be good to have. David Lang has volunteered to write down the gist of these requests so that we can prioritize work. The discussion will start via the rsyslog mailing list.

For me, it was a personal pleasure to meet some of rsyslog’s long-time team members which I never had met “in person”. The spirit throughout the meeting was very positive. Also, my new self-hosted Jitsi meet server performed well, so we had no tech glitch.

Discussion, feedback and suggestions on how the meetings could be improved is already going on on the mailing list. This is fantastic and will help all of us to connect better to each other and driver work forward in an even better way.

I have not yet set the specifics, but I plan for at least one more meeting in October, this time announced at least around a week before. For the time beeing, we will stick to the 3p UTC time slot, which was considered quite OK.

More tech details will come up with further posts. I just wanted to make this information here available ASAP and especially provide the meeting recording.

Special thanks to Digital Ocean for sponsoring the meeting server VM. They also sponsor part of our CI infrastructure and download repositories.
